The Young Doctors Association (YDA) ended its protest on Saturday after the Punjab health secretary guaranteed them that their demands would be fulfilled.
The association was demanding that the government provide them with personal protective equipment (PPEs) to prevent healthcare workers from catching the coronavirus.
Doctors were assured by the health secretary that the government will constitute committees to guarantee the provision of protective equipment. He also confirmed that the appointments of young doctors who were earlier sacked on the orders of the Punjab government will be restored within two weeks.
The government also agreed that doctors, paramedics, and nurses would be screened for the virus. Moreover, the health department will also grant risk allowances to all paramedics and doctors hired on ad hoc, contract, or training bases.
Doctors attending coronavirus patients will also be provided hotel-like amenities at the hospitals.
