There has been a drastic change in the power and influence of social media, especially in the past couple of years. Maybe, this also serves as a reason to why the innocent population of war-torn Syria see it as their only hope to garner attention to the ongoing bloodshed in the region.
The fact that Social Media has served as a representative of the oppressed is no exaggeration. It also stands a verified fact that as we have become insensitive as a world community, it is the only voice for the voiceless. When we have collectively blinded and deafened ourselves to the cries of Syria, these two sisters from the fraught East Ghouta has taken to Social Media to show the world what it’s like living there.
They’re using this platform to call for help as the situation continues to deteriorate with humanity being put to shame every single day. Syrian sisters Noor, who is 10 years old, and Alaa, who is at a tender age of 8, call it a hell on Earth. They began sharing their daily lives back in November 2017.
Their house was also attacked back in February and Alaa sustained some injuries as well. They took to Social Media regularly and pleaded the world to do something about it as they just want to lead a normal life, like the rest of us.

They say that the war with taking many lives has also killed their dreams and ambitions. According to ENCA, both the sisters and their families are being rescued by The Gift of Givers. The director, Imtiaz Sooliman, says that the girls are happy to be safe but sad at the same time to leave their home where they have spent all their childhood. He said that they’re strong-minded people but the devastating civil war has lasted an impression that they’ll never ever forget.

‘We are so happy to be alive”, they say in a recent video message, which accurately depicts the psychological fear the children will always have in their hearts.
