[VIDEO] Zahid Ahmed breaks his silence over boycotting Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, shares thoughts on feminism
Like always, Zahid had a very balanced approach to the issue.
Prior to the Aurat March on the 8th of March 2020, a clip of popular Pakistani script-writer Khalil-ur-Rehman from a live show went viral in. In the video, he abused and disrespected human rights activist Marvi Sirmid.
While many actors/actresses raised their voices in favor of Marvi, there were also some who chose to maintain their silence.
Actor Zahid Ahmed recently broke his silence over the matter and said that he won’t work with Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar if he doesn’t change his behavior.
In his interview with Iffat Omar, he said that Qamar is very close to him since he worked with the writer while shooting for his drama serial ‘Zara Yaad Kar’ and ‘Tou Dil Ka Kya Hua’.
‘’I respect him and care for him, and the entire country celebrates his talent’’, he said. However, Ahmed went on to say that what Qamar did was completely unacceptable.
‘’So, you must apologize from that woman and the entire country. He should say that he was angry and crossed a boundary and that he will work on his attitude’’, Zahid said.
He added that if Khalil doesn’t work on his attitude and keeps on defending himself, there will come a time where he and other actors from the industry will boycott him and stop working with him.
‘’I’m saying this with love and due to our relationship, Khalil sahib you should apologize and you should take care because people look up to you. You’re an inspiration. I can’t sit next to my children and tell them this is a legendary writer and these are the kind of things he’s saying. So, please work on these things’’, he said.
While talking about feminism, he said that women aren’t less than men in any way.
‘’I am the child of a mother who was a teacher, fighter, and a brilliant woman. Even if she wasn’t, look around you…there’s two genders of the human species. How can you propagate an idea
which lessens the other in any way or form?’’, Zahid said.
