Zartaj Gul under fire as news of her sister’s appointment as director NACTA emerged
Zartaj Gul was subjected to harsh criticism on social media following her sister's appointment.
State Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul Wazir has set a shameful example of nepotism by allegedly referring her sister’s appointment for the post of NACTA director. Shabnam Gul was working as an assistant professor at Lahore College for Women University prior to her appointment as Director NACTA on May 22.
Zartaj Gul called the Interior Secretary Azam Khan for the appointment of her sister against the said post. A copy of the letter written by the Principal Staff Officer which states that he was directed to refer the telephonic conversation that Zartaj Gul made to Azam Suleman regarding her sister’s appointment in NACTA. A copy of the letter is attached herewith. A link to the copy of her resume is also attached herein.
The appointment of Shabnam Gul invited harsh criticism by media and people denounced the appointment in NACTA wrong and an absurd move.
If the woman – Shabnam Gul, being appointed in NACTA- a state-owned institution, qualifies for the position, great but if the ONLY merit for this appointment is that she is Zartaj Gul's sister, it's a WRONG decision & should be reverted!#NayaPakistan must live up to its word!👍 pic.twitter.com/5r9Ld2TYiM

“Shabnam Gul is selected on merit as the recruiting committee recommended her purely on merit criteria”, a statement from the spokesperson read. After Interior Secretary received the letter in February, NACTA was bound to follow the rules. State Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul informed that her sister has a Ph.D. in terrorism so she should be considered for the recruitment against the post.
Three member recruitment committee had received a total of 12 applications from various provincial and federal departments. Out of which committee gave approval to 6 of them with Shabnam Gul as a final selected for the vacancy.
Anti-corruption drive was on the top of the political agenda of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf government before coming to power as it promised to expose the corruption of the then ruling political party PML-N.
Such a disgusting move by the Minister of State is a severe blow to the stance of PTI and Imran Khan.
PM Imran Khan’s reaction
PM Imran Khan took notice of the news and directed that Zartaj Gul should withdraw her letter written to NACTA regarding her sister’s appointment. “This was against the ethics of PTI which has always opposed nepotism”, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Naeem-ul-Haq said in a tweet.
